How does Rosebridge work?

Every lesson has two parts. First you watch a six-minute video on your own time. Each video teaches one idea, set in a real work situation, and you can pause and rewatch as often as you like. Then you meet a teacher for a 50-minute live session where you use what you watched. Nobody lectures in the live session. The whole time goes to you speaking and to fixing whatever didn't come out clearly.

We call it a flipped classroom: the explaining happens on video, and the time with a real person is saved for the one thing that needs a real person, which is practice.

What level should I start at?

Take the free level check and we'll tell you. It's based on the CEFR, the scale many universities and employers use (A1 is beginner, C1 is advanced). You'll see a recommended level as soon as you finish, and a Rosebridge teacher reviews your writing answers and confirms which course to start in.

If you already know your CEFR level from a recent test, that's a good guide too, but we still suggest the level check. It's free, there's no login, and it takes the guesswork out of your first week.

Is the level check really free? What's involved?

Yes. It's free, there's no account to create, and we don't ask for a card. The test has 100 questions on grammar, usage, and the rhythm of spoken English, plus 20 short writing prompts. The questions get harder as you go, so stop when they stop making sense. There's no time limit, and you can save and come back at any checkpoint.

How are live sessions booked?

From your student dashboard. Once you're on a plan, you'll see the teachers and times available at your level, and you pick the slot that fits your week. Each session is 50 minutes. You can book one-on-one sessions or join a small group of 3 to 6 students at your level.

Your plan tells you how many sessions are included each month. If you want more, you can add a one-on-one session for $26 or a group session for $10 a person.

What happens if I miss a session?

Life happens, so here's the deal. If you cancel or reschedule at least 12 hours before the start time, there's no cost and the session credit goes right back to your account. If you give less than 12 hours' notice, or you don't show up within 5 minutes of the start time, the session counts as a no-show. You're charged for 80% of it and we credit the other 20% back.

Your teacher has set that time aside for you and usually can't fill it on short notice, which is why the window matters. Real emergencies are reviewed case by case, so write to us and we'll work it out. The full details are in our cancellation and no-show policy.

What if my teacher cancels?

Teachers give at least 24 hours' notice for planned changes. If a teacher cancels late or doesn't show, you're never charged, and you choose what happens next: a guaranteed makeup session at a time that works for you, or the full session credited back to your account.

Can I switch plans?

Yes. You can move up or down between Foundations, Guided, and Immersion from your dashboard. The change takes effect on your next billing date, so you keep whatever your current plan includes until then.

A common path is to start on Guided, see how two sessions a month feel, and move to Immersion when you want weekly speaking time.

How do I cancel?

From your dashboard, any time. There's no contract and no cancellation fee. When you cancel, your plan stays active until the end of the billing period you've already paid for, and you won't be charged again. Any live sessions you've already booked in that period are still yours to use.

What makes Rosebridge different?

Three things. First, your live time is for speaking, not listening to a lecture. You watch the lesson before class, so your teacher doesn't repeat it. Second, every lesson is set in a work situation: meetings, calls, email, presentations, feedback. There's one path, from A1 to C1, built for people who use English at work. Third, being understood is part of the curriculum. We teach stress, rhythm, and intonation at every level, because those decide whether people understand you the first time.

How much does it cost?

Plans start at $19 a month. Every plan includes the full video course. The difference is how much live speaking time comes with it:

  • Foundations, $19/month: the video course on its own.
  • Guided, $59/month: the video course plus two live sessions a month.
  • Immersion, $109/month: the video course plus about one live session a week.

Subscribers can also book an extra one-on-one session for $26, or a small group session for $10 a person. All prices are in US dollars.

How much time does it take each week?

Less than you might think. A video lesson is about six minutes, and most students watch two or three a week. Add a 50-minute live session when your plan includes one. On Immersion, that's roughly an hour and a half a week. On Guided, it's closer to an hour, with a live session every other week.

The videos are short on purpose. They fit into a commute or a coffee break, and you can rewatch a lesson the night before your session.

What technology do I need?

A computer, tablet, or phone with a camera and microphone, a steady internet connection, and a quiet place to talk. Videos and live sessions both run in your web browser, so there's nothing to install. Headphones help, especially for the pronunciation work.

Who are the teachers?

Rosebridge teachers are American and hold at least a 60-hour TESOL certificate or the equivalent. They don't write lessons or give lectures. Our curriculum team records every video, so your teacher's whole attention in a session goes to you: how you're speaking today and what to work on next.

One thing we want to be clear about: the goal isn't to make you sound like someone else. Your accent is part of who you are. We work on stress, rhythm, and clarity so that people understand you the first time, wherever your English goes.

One-on-one or group: which should I choose?

One-on-one sessions give you 50 minutes of a teacher's full attention, which is best if you want fast feedback on your own speaking. Group sessions (3 to 6 students at your level) cost less and give you practice listening and responding to different speakers, which is closer to a real meeting. Many students mix the two. If you're not sure, start one-on-one for your first session and ask your teacher what they'd suggest.

I'm a complete beginner. Can I still join?

Yes. The A1 course starts at the very beginning: introducing yourself and your job, times and deadlines, short phone calls and emails. You'll see the recommended level right after the level check, and the first lessons are built to be clear even when your English is just getting started.

Still deciding? Start with your level.

The free level check takes the guesswork out of your first week. A Rosebridge teacher reviews it and tells you which course to start in.
